COVID- video sessions addendum 4-13-20:
Although for the present because of the COVID pandemic I am not physically in my Art Museum office, I am now offering remote video sessions for established and new clients via the secure Doxy.me platform.
The good news is that therapy conducted via video sessions has been shown in research to be effective for many, if not most, therapy issues. It does, however, require the same level of commitment and presence in therapy for effectiveness as in-person psychotherapy. There are both advantages and disadvantages to doing therapy remotely via video, of course.
Before doing an initial evaluation with someone new I would need to speak with you on the phone to clarify a number of things, then get proof of identity, arrange for secure payment, and get signed consent and other paperwork taken care of. Then we can proceed to the intake.
New clients who wish to pursue a video evaluation must have a secure (i.e., not public) wifi connection capable of allowing good audio and video transmission and be able to pay for the initial evaluation via Venmo or a check that clears in advance of an initial evaluation session. Clients must also have a good video camera (usually built in on a laptop), tablet (e.g., iPad), or smartphone with microphone and camera enabled. They must also use one of these 3 browsers (and have the most updated versions of these): Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. More details will be provided after we speak on the phone.
I am not able to provide regular (i.e., non-video) phone sessions with new clients.
Already established clients who wish to explore video sessions must also review the possible costs/benefits to video sessions, sign an additional consent form, and provide some emergency contact info before shifting to video sessions. I would be happy to provide such details to established clients if you call or contact me via text.
I look forward to better serving your needs in this very altered and stressful time. Feel free to call me if you have questions.
